According to the requirements of production process, the processing equipment used in Dalian die processing is also different. In general, the proportion of free-form surface is increasing in all kinds of lathes, drilling machines and boring machines for turning holes. Therefore, higher requirements are put forward for die and mould processing technology, that is, not only high manufacturing accuracy and surface quality should be guaranteed, but also high-speed machining technology has been more and more applied to die and mould manufacturing.


High-speed machining technology has a tremendous impact on die processing technology, changing the traditional die processing "annealing milling heat treatment grinding". Reasonable processing methods and technological routes are adopted for different requirements of structure shape, size, accuracy and service life. The main goal of die roughing is to achieve material removal rate per unit time and prepare the geometric profile of the workpiece for semi-finishing.


In roughing process, the cutting conditions can be kept constant by using foreign advanced CAD/CAM software. For example, when machining die cavity, the tool should be avoided to insert vertically into the workpiece, and the inclined cutter should be adopted (commonly inclined angle is 20-30 degrees), and the screw cutter should be used to reduce the tool load. The main objective is to make the workpiece contour smooth and the surface finish machining allowance. Uniformity is particularly important for tool steel dies, because it will affect the change of cutting surface area and tool load during finishing.


Because there is no intermediate information describing the model of roughing and finishing, the distribution of residual machining allowance and residual machining allowance of roughing surface are unknown. If the residual machining allowance of the local milling process is equal to that of the roughing process, only a small diameter milling cutter is used to remove the uncut corners of the roughing process, and then semi-finishing is carried out.
